Volcanic history is reconstructed from deposits, landforms and laboratory dating, not from a continuous human chronicle. The Global Volcanism Program lists Elbrus as a Holocene volcano and records a confirmed eruptive period around 50 CE, with uncertainty and tephrochronology identified as the evidence.[1] This is a catalogue entry, not an exact date and not a forecast.
Scientific papers may revise the timing or interpretation of volcanic phases as new geochronology becomes available. The appropriate way to read a date is to ask which material was dated, by which method, and whether the date concerns eruption, deposition or a correlated layer. Volcano and geology introduces the physical setting.
