Maps and datasets describe a selection of the landscape. A contour, summit point, glacier outline or protected-area boundary should be read with its producer, edition, coordinate reference system, scale or resolution, and date. These details determine what a map can reasonably support.
The Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program provides coordinates for its named volcanic features.[1] Glacier researchers construct outlines from dated remote-sensing and terrain data.[2] The two kinds of data serve different questions and should not be merged without recording their provenance.
Elbrus.info uses maps as reference evidence. It does not present them as navigation tools, route instructions or current-access information. Historical maps concerns older representations; Elevation and measurement concerns height values.
